Spring 2007
Talented board leading ACCC into future
By Dr. Sue Offutt, Ph.D
Board of Trustees Chairperson
As an independent organization Anne Carlsen Center for Children’s
Board of Trustees is charged with the responsibility to guide the
organization’s growth and maintain a solid financial stronghold.
In July 2003, when the Center first became independent, two boards
were created…a governing operating board and an advisory Foundation
board to guide the work of ACCC’s Foundation. Each had nine members.
This past summer the memberships of both boards were combined.
We did this to better utilize the collective experience and talents
of all members to direct the operational and foundation activities.
ACCC’s board members (listed in the back of this issue) bring
a wealth of beneficial experience to the table as attorneys, bankers,
healthcare consultants, parents of children with disabilities,
fund raising professionals and service delivery professionals in
the disabilities field.
We need this experience to help take Anne Carlsen Center for Children
to the next level in its drive to change more lives forever.
We are poised and ready to impact the lives of children and their
families beyond the walls of ACCC’s main campus in Jamestown.
The Center’s staff reaches beyond the campus by providing employment
support, professional development, evaluations and assessments
and other services to children living in their home communities.
In 2006, we provided outreach services to 219 children and young
adults with disabilities and trained over 1,700 professionals supporting
people with disabilities.
The board of trustees believes there
is a need for more services in the region and that ACCC needs to
be a leader in providing them, whether on the Jamestown campus
or elsewhere. We are in the beginning stages of determining where
that need is greatest and evaluating what we can and will invest
to help change more lives forever.
