2005 brings ACCC full circle

By Bryon Docktor
Board of Trustees Chairperson

Anne Carlsen Center for Children’s board of trustees spent much of 2005 preparing the organization for an exciting future helping children with special needs thrive.

We are coming full circle on a path paved by our founders including Rev. W.B. Schoenbohm, and Fred Knautz. Our mission and passion remain as strong today as it was 65 years ago.

2005 highlights

  • Financially, strive to be good stewards of your financial support. In 2005 we were successful in lobbying the state of North Dakota for additional reimbursement for our medically fragile students. We focused a great deal of time educating the state legislators about Anne Carlsen Center for Children’s residents and the high degree of medical needs they have.
  • Eight children moved into a new home when the third house was completed in the first phase of our residential expansion and remodeling efforts. You will read about the next phase, remodeling and expanding our medically fragile area, in this issue of The Ambassador.
  • The board of trustees made the decision that ACCC will become a smoke-free campus this year. Doing so creates and even cleaner, healthier environment for the children and staff here.
  • Our outreach services continue to grow, allowing us to touch the lives of even more children with special needs. We are training other professionals from around the region to support children they serve. Our summer camp gave 25 teenagers a unique opportunity to spend a week enjoying a camping experience.
In 2005 Pastor JoAnne Moeller joined our staff as chaplain. The Center was founded by ministers and has always had a ministry of hope and healing. Pastor JoAnne’s ministry will bring us full circle.
