Spring 2006

Plans on track for greenhouse addition

Support from donors for a new, four-season greenhouse has been strong and plans continue to construct it this Spring. ACCC continues to gather support for this project which will provide educational, therapeutic, and psychological benefits for the children.

  • Gardening activities will be included in the students’ lesson plans, enabling them to learn more about the uses of vegetables and flowers and nurturing them to maturity.
  • Tending to plants and soil helps students experience joy and fulfillment as they get their hands dirty and see the results of their labors.
  • Children who use wheelchairs will be able to more fully participate in the entire gardening process with accessible planting areas.
  • Teachers have observed the alleviation of pain when students have been immersed in gardening activities.
  • Creating the opportunity to do gardening indoors will mean that children highly susceptible to changes in weather conditions due to fragile health will be able to take part, and almost all students will enjoy it year-round.

Watch for a final report on the new greenhouse late this year!
