ACCC autism series features national speakers

Anne Carlsen Center for Children is hosting two workshops on autism this summer. Registrations are now being accepted.

The workshops on June 2-3 and Aug. 25-26 are designed for families and professionals who are seeking techniques to support children and young adults with autism.

“Putting the Pieces Together Using a 5 Step Framework for Success” in June features special educators and nationally-recognized autism experts Jean Walsh and Karen Barineau. They will lead participants through strategies in dealing with education, communication, socialization, behavior and transitional issues. The steps they provide will allow opportunities for students to participate in life while decreasing inappropriate behaviors.

Walsh and Barineau have nearly 30 years combined experience teaching and consulting. They specialize in developing communication and visual supports for individuals in the areas of organization, behaviors and academics.

The cost for their two-day workshop is $75.

In August Dr. Cathy Pratt, Ph.D., director of the Indiana Resource Center for Autism at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, brings her two-day workshop, “Designing Programs for Individuals Across the Autism Spectrum,” to ACCC. She will provide participants with practical recommendations on how to support and effectively educate students on the autism spectrum.

The cost for her workshop is $125.

Group discounts are available. Additional registration information is available at www.annecenter.org or by calling ACCC 1-800-568-5175.
