The summer camp experience means fun and adventure, but teens with disabilities often miss out on these life-changing highlights of summer.
For students attending the Anne Carlen Center (ACC), and teens across the state with disabilities, the annual TechnoCamp creates unparalleled opportunities for friends, smiles, learning and laughter. This year’s TechnoCamp is scheduled to run from June 27 through July 2.
Elks Camp Grassick is home to this amazing camp opportunity each year, on the southern shore of Lake Isabel about five miles south of Dawson, N.D. Each year ACC staff partners with members of the Camp Grassick staff to provide campers with access to new technology and traditional camp activities, as well as the chance to create many new life-long friends.
Campers will get the opportunity to enjoy activities such as riding on a boat in a lake, swimming in a lake, building and eating S’mores, taking a hay ride throughout the camp, and enjoying breakfast camp fare such as pancakes and sausage. There are also opportunities to create pieces of art, photo albums or music through adaptive software.
TechnoCamp information—such as camp attendance criteria, a camp application, and a brochure—is available at www.annecenter.org by clicking on the “Programs & Services” section and then clicking on the “Summer Camp” link. To speak to a representative from the Anne Carlsen Center about TechnoCamp, contact ACC Assistive Technology Coordinator Theresa Hanson at 1-800-568-5175 or by e-mail.
