Motorcycle Clubs Donate Over $6,000 to Anne Carlsen Center, Students

The Ladies and Individuals Motorcycle Clubs donated more than $6,000 to the Anne Carlsen Center (ACC) during a presentation on Oct. 13.

Two gifts were made to the Center – a $3,500 check was presented to ACC Activity Director Denise Jensen, who, along with ACC Planned Giving Specialist Shelley Nannenga, also accepted a $50 gift card for each student at the Center.

"These gifts are unbelievable," Nannenga told the motorcycle clubs. “For you to think so much of the Center, and so much of the kids – we are blown away. We are so grateful.”

The money will go to the ACC Student Council’s fund, and will help provide yearbooks for each student at the Center. Money will also provide items such as a jacket, shoes, winter gear, or pool footwear to students who have outgrown their current belongings.

The donated money was raised by the motorcycle groups who accepted donations from area businesses. Money was also given by the 200-plus bikers visiting students at the Center prior to their ride to Edgeley, Kulm, Lehr, Streeter and Medina.

"Being on a run with a lot of bikes – it is a thrill," said Laurie Hayes, Ladies Club President. "I can imagine how much fun it is for the kids."

The motorcycle clubs also traditionally donate pizzas at the Center’s Halloween party each year, and have been involved in a number of other projects at the Center’s Jamestown campus. The bikers built the gazebo in front of the Center’s main campus building, built lattice walls around garden plots, and provided many hours of help during the construction of the Center’s nature trail.

"We really appreciate everything the Anne Carlsen Center does for us when we are at the Center," said Hayes. "You guys work so hard, and this gift will be able to help the kids with whatever they need."

"I can’t believe you are thanking us,' Jensen said. "This gift is overwhelming, and I’m very touched. We are so blessed to have you as friends."

Due to the threat presented by the H1N1 influenza strain, the Center will not have a public Halloween party this year. A number of visitor restrictions are in place to help keep the students as healthy as possible. However, Anne Carlsen Center staff and members of the motorcycle clubs agreed they would try to celebrate together with a party once the flu restrictions are lifted at ACC.
