Conference explores tools available to support people with autism
Registrations are now being accepted for CloserLook, a conference March 9-10 that will explore the technology and educational support tools available to assist children and young adults with autism.
Anne Carlsen Center for Children is hosting the event which is designed to best benefit education professionals, therapists, families, and caregivers.
For those registering before Feb. 15, the cost of the conference is $65 and for registration after the Feb. 15 deadline, $75.
A Make-n-Take session kicks off the event, giving participants a chance to create a sensory tool kit to aid in addressing communication and leisure skills while meeting sensory needs for students with autism. Individual tool kits will have visual, auditory, and tactile items. A $25 materials fee applies to those attending this session.
Participants will be able to choose from 11 breakout sessions and humorous keynote speaker, T. Marni Vos.
T. Marni Vos is a motivational speaker, former high school teacher, and comedian whose hope is to motivate, inspire, and entertain with ideas to bring “Humor in Everyday Life” in the keynote session.
Eleven break-out sessions are available for participants to select from, ranging in topics that include benefits of music therapy, how to incorporate new technologies in order to support people with autism, and involving people more fully in recreational activities.
For more information about CloserLook and detailed descriptions of each breakout session or to register, access the Center’s website at www.annecenter.org or call at 1-800-568-5175.
