Work Rewarded

ACC Presented with Special Achievement Award by Jamestown Chamber Beautification Committee

The Anne Carlsen Center’s maintenance department, Rick Owens, Larry Morlock and Clayton Cordell, sit in front of the statue of Dr. Anne while displaying the award the Center was given recently by the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce. The award is a special achievement award given for the maintaining of beauty around the cottage area on the Center’s Jamestown campus.

Keeping something beautiful is often as hard, if not harder, than just making something beautiful.

So when the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce’s Beautification Committee finds someone maintaining that level of appeal, they enjoy rewarding that hard work.

The committee cited the Anne Carlsen Center for a special achievement award in September, as part of the Center’s commitment to excellence in curb appeal.

“The village area of the Anne Carlsen Center has had new construction, landscaping and trees, and that is what caught our eye,” explained committee member Paulette Ritter. “A lot of times you’ll see new construction, but (the Anne Carlsen Center) has gone beyond that. That is why we selected you guys as one of the winners.”

The Center’s maintenance department is comprised of Rick Owens, Larry Morlock and Clayton Cordell, three gentlemen whose easy-going smiles immediately remove any notions of a tough exterior.

“All three of us take quite a bit of pride in the work we do at the Anne Carlsen Center,” said Owens. “It’s always nice to be recognized for the work you do. But honestly, we just see our jobs as taking care of what needs to be taken care of.”

That honest approach to an honest day’s work is the backbone of the maintenance department’s day. There is a job to be done and you treat that job like it’s a project you are doing for your own home.

“We like to award someone that is taking an interest in Jamestown,” said Ritter. “As a city, we like to take pride in people who make it look nice. And we wanted to recognize those employers that do a good job with it.”
