Understanding Cortical Vision Impairment
Brief Description:
There are many different levels of cortical vision impairment, all affecting how a child will learn in his environment. It is important to understand the unique characteristics of cortical vision impairment in order to begin to help a child improve how they view things.
Objective:
• Introduce what cortical vision impairment is and what may cause cortical vision impairment.
• Learn some basic characteristics of cortical vision impairment.
• Share ideas for intervention and how to adapt the environment for a child with CVI.
Audience:
Speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, early intervention specialists, parents, school nurses, teachers and special education teachers.

Presenters:
Connie Lillejord, OTR/L has worked at the Anne Carlsen Center for Children for the past 13 years and the last eight years as the Director of Rehab services. She has worked and consulted for the South Central Infant Development program. Prior to becoming a director, she also, consulted with area nursing homes and numerous special education programs in the region.
Sharon Olson is the early childhood special education teacher at ACCC with an array of experience incorporating both humor and technology into her classroom. She has presented at many conferences on various aspects of incorporating simple techniques into a classroom for children with special needs.
Cost:
$360
Per diem travel fee of $1 per mile, per presenter to and from Jamestown.
