GRASPing for More

Brief Description:
The Anne Carlsen Center for Children (ACCC) has been completing community-based vocational assessments with students with disabilities since 1989. The overall goal of this project is to better prepare students with disabilities for employment opportunities and community living upon completion of their educational program. The objectives of this project include conducting community-based or on-site vocational assessments for youth with disabilities ages 14-21 and assisting school personnel to implement and utilize the Life Centered Career Education (LCCE) curriculum (if applicable).

Objectives:

  • Assist professionals who want to enhance or start a vocational services program
  • Provide forms useful in starting a vocation assessment program
  • Share ideas for student interest surveys and unique assessment sites

Audience:
Teachers, Vocational staff, School Counselors, Job Service staff, Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors

Length:
1-2 hour presentation

Presenters:
Laurie Skadsem, Community Integration Program Manager since 1988, developed and implemented the Community Integration and Vocational Development Program at ACCC. She is a Jamestown winner of Health Care Professional of the Year (1998 & 1999), Jamestown Sertoma Club winner of Service to Mankind Award (1997-98), Jamestown ARC Community Involvement Award (1996), Nominated for Mt. Plains Exceptional Program of the Year Award (1995).

Cost:
1 hour: $270
2 hour: $360
Per diem travel fee of $1 per mile to and from Jamestown.
