Success in a Suitcase
Brief Description
Have you ever felt like you are just out of ideas for vocational or leisure activities? Anne Carlsen Center for Children professionals have developed suitcases with examples and ideas for you to use. These tips will be helpful as you prepare students with disabilities for employment opportunities and community living upon completion of their educational program.
Objectives
- Participants will be actively involved in ways to incorporate vocational and leisure activities throughout the students’ program.
- Participants will leave with many new ideas, tips, and motivations to begin using immediately.

Teachers, Vocational staff, School Counselors, Job Service staff, Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors

Presenters
Laurie Skadsem, Community Integration Program Manager since 1988, developed and implemented the Community Integration and Vocational Development Program at ACCC. She is a Jamestown winner of Health Care Professional of the Year (1998 & 1999), Jamestown Sertoma Club winner of Service to Mankind Award (1997-98), Jamestown ARC Community Involvement Award (1996), Nominated for Mt. Plains Exceptional Program of the Year Award (1995).
H. Beverly Miedema (Bev) : Grass Roots Assessment Services Project (GRASP) Coordinator, employed by Anne Carlsen Center for Children, Jamestown, ND for 5 years. Bev is a certified elementary education instructor with 18 years of direct teaching experience. She coordinates and completes GRASP employment assessments for young adults with special needs (16-21 years) in Region VI - North Dakota.
Cost
1 hour: $270
2 hour: $360
Per diem travel fee of $1 per mile to and from Jamestown.
