Transition Tips and Other Stuff to Worry… Think ...About

Brief Description

Balancing life with all that needs to be done can be a daunting task for any one of us. If you are a young adult with a disability transitioning into the real world for the first time can be overwhelming. Through tips, cheat sheets, and whatever handy-dandy device that has worked for ACCC, this program will give you ideas and “stuff” to try to make life a little more manageable.

Objectives

  • Provide participants a wide variety of ways to assist or support someone with a disability to be more independent and able to self-advocate.
  • Provide participants low cost, practical tips and ideas when looking at areas of transition including life skills, social skills, community participation, leisure, and life-long learning.

Audience
Families, teachers, classroom staff, caregivers/support staff.

Laurie Skadsem, Community Integration Program Manager since 1988, developed and implemented the Community Integration and Vocational Development Program at ACCC. She is a Jamestown winner of Health Care Professional of the Year (1998 & 1999), Jamestown Sertoma Club winner of Service to Mankind Award (1997-98), Jamestown ARC Community Involvement Award (1996), Nominated for Mt. Plains Exceptional Program of the Year Award (1995).

1 hour: $270
2 hour: $360
Per diem travel fee of $1 per mile to and from Jamestown.
