Technology Track
- Intellitools Classroom Suite: During the two-day workshop, participants will be given an in-depth look
at the Intellitools Classroom Suite software and receive hands-on experience with each of the three tools, creating personalized projects. Participants will be given ideas and suggestions
on how to utilize the Suite when adapting curriculum and creating classroom activities.
- Shareware and Freeware for the Macintosh: Participants will learn how to find inexpensive and free Mac-based
software.
- Make Them Laugh: Presenters will introduce the audience to a wide variety of technology as a way to involve
students in school activities. Participants will leave with many new ideas, tips and motivations to begin using immediately. And they’ll be laughing when they leave! Day-long sessions
feature make-n-take projects.
- Livin' the iLife: Participans will explore Apple's iLife software, a collection of applications that allow
you to take your classroom to new levels by creating movies, photo albums, CDs, DVDs, your own music, podcasts and so much more! The 5 applications include iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, Garageband,
and iWeb.These programs will enable you to create classroom projects and publish them on-line for parents and others to see. The 2-day session will give participants hands-on experience
with these exciting applications and a chance to create photo albums, a movie, your own song, a Webpage and your own CD's
- Cool Books for Cool Kids: This hands-on workshop that will show you how to adapt books to allow all kids
access to the wonderful world of reading. Participants will gain ideas to give students who could not access books because of physical, cognitive or behavioral limitations the opportunity
to enjoy and access books.
- The Great Reading Adventure:This workshop provides ideas on how to engage and immerse every child
in the literacy process. Participants will explore programs like Boardmakers, Intellitools Classroom Suite, Kurzweil Reading system, My Own Bookshelf, PixWriter, and Start to Finish Literacy
Series. The one-day session includes an introduction and a hands-on experience with several software programs. Two-day sessions allow participants and in-depth look at and opportunity to
use software to create activities
Transition Track
- Get A Job - Get a Life!: Participants will receive detailed descriptions of effective job development,
job carving and client placement as a way to help clients reach success in the workforce. Offered as an overview presentation or more in-depth workshop.
- How Do the Pieces of Your Life Fit?: The Pieces of Life program is a training and support program to
help individuals gain personal development with emphasis on daily living, personal-social needs and occupational skills. Presenters will share information on duplicating this program.
- GRASPing for More: This presentation will assist professionals who want to start or enhance a vocational
services program and provide useful forms and tips for student interest surveys. Presenters will also give participants ideas of unique assessment sites to consider.
- Transition Tips and Other Stuff to Worry… Think About: This presentation provides participants
a wide variety of ways to assist or support someone with a disability to be more independent and able to self-advocate. The presenter shares low cost, practical tips and ideas when
looking at areas of transition including life skills, social skills, community participation, leisure, and life-long learning.
- Success in a Suitcase: Have you ever felt like you are just out of ideas for vocational or leisure activities?
Anne Carlsen Center for Children professionals have developed suitcases with examples and ideas for you to use. These tips will be helpful as you prepare students with disabilities for
employment opportunities and community living upon completion of their educational program.
Therapy Track
- Learning How Your Senses Work Together: Learn about the seven basic senses and what a child may
do if he or she has a sensory dysfunction in any of these areas. Learn why sensory experiences are important to a child’s development and learning. 2 hour: $360
- Understanding Cortical Vision Impairment: Presenters will define cortical vision impairment,
what may cause it and review the basic characteristics of CVI. Intervention ideas will be shared along with techniques on how to adapt an individual’s environment for learning. 1 ½ hour:
$360
- Safe and Efficient Eating with Special Needs Students: After this presentation, participants will be aware
of what to look for in identifying children who may be having problems with eating and understand the causes of dysphagia. Presenters will be introduced to some basic treatment considerations. 2
hour: $420 • 4 hour: $700
- Adapt Your Child’s Work and Play Environments: Participants will gather ideas and become
familiar with things they can make and implement when they return to home or work. Presenters will let participants choose a “make and take” project to show just how easy...and
cheap... it can be to adapt a child’s environment. 2 hour: $420 • 3 hour: $550
- Body Mechanics & Transfer Techniques: Participants will learn safe and proper transfer techniques for a variety of clients utilizing appropriate body mechanics. The
session includes demonstration followed by hands-on practice.
- Using Visual Supports to Enhance Communication: Visual supports can enhance the learning process. This workshop provides participants with many different ways to use
visual supports and incorporate them in different learning environments.
- The Writing’s on the Wall: Participants will get an overview of handwriting essentials...from sensory preferences to holding a pencil correctly. The presenter also
provides great tips on how to work with left-handers.
